Five more highway robbers in police net

NONGPOH, Sep 12: In yet another act of robbery in Ri-Bhoi district, five highway robbers were apprehended by locals after attempting to rob a truck parked near Umnget using an auto-rickshaw.
The driver of the truck, identified as 28-year-old Tuta Dey from Tripura, managed to escape and raise the alarm. Responding to his call for help, nearby residents chased the robbers and caught them at Quinine along National Highway-6 in Ri-Bhoi. In the process, the robbers were assaulted by the public, with some sustaining serious injuries. The truck, bearing registration number AS 01-GC-3086, was parked on the roadside while Dey was preparing food. He recounted the ordeal, stating that the robbers approached him while he was cooking.
The identities of the robbers are yet to be confirmed, and police are investigating the incident.
