Man gets 8-yr RI in 2008 rape case

SHILLONG, Sep 12: The Court of Session Judge, West Jaintia Hills, on Monday convicted one Se Phawa of raping a woman over 15 years ago.
The court found Phawa guilty under Section 376(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sentenced him to eight years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also recommended a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh for the victim.
It may be mentioned that the incident occurred on December 14, 2008, when the victim, while returning home, encountered Phawa, son of Brid Bareh of Kyndong Tuber, who raped her and threatened her life if she raised an alarm.
Following the sexual assault, the victim lodged a police complaint, and the investigation was conducted by WPSI O. Tyngkan, after which Phawa was tried in a court of law.
