BSF personnel drowns in SGH during picnic

Tura, Sep 22: An early Sunday picnic by two BSF personnel from Tura turned tragic after one of them drowned in the Bandari Falls near Sangkinigre in South Garo Hills on Sunday morning.
As per reports, the deceased identified as Sub-Inspector Suman Kr Sona went along with a colleague from the Sector Headquarter (SHQ) in Tura to enjoy a swim in the falls. However, Sona took a dip in the water and then failed to resurface.
When he did not surface for a long time, his colleague began to search for him nearby before locals joined in to help. The incident is said to have occurred at about 10 am. “We were informed at about 12 pm when the search by locals as well as jawans from the BSF who had come after being alerted by their colleague. Police teams rushed to the spot from Tura as well as SGH along with a Search and Rescue Team (SRT). After a massive search of the area, we were able to recover the body of the jawan towards the afternoon,” informed SGH district police chief, Shailendra Bamaniya.
Following the recovery, the deceased jawan’s body was sent to the Tura Civil Hospital.
