SHILLONG, Sep 22: The VPP on Sunday dismissed the UDP’s call for a regional alliance, saying it is difficult for them to even think about coming together in an alliance with the UDP.
“We stand committed to our principles and ideologies and we are against anything contrary to or in conflict with our ideologies,” VPP’s Lok Sabha member, Ricky AJ Syngkon said.
Asked if the VPP’s decision is aimed at having an identity of its own, he said, “It is not about us maintaining a separate identity. This is based on matters of principles. We have time and again said we will never compromise on our principles.”
The UDP had issued a clarion call for all the regional parties in the state, including the VPP, to rally under the banner of the Regional Democratic Alliance.
The UDP is the biggest regional party with 12 MLAs in the House of 60.
