SHILLONG, Sep 23: The Health department has clarified that the case of medical negligence in Jengjal Sub Divisional Hospital, West Garo Hills, is being looked into by the department.
It however stated that although there has been no direct complaint from the aggrieved party, the department has sought a comprehensive report from the Director of Health Services (Maternal Child Health and Family Welfare) on the matter.
“However, prima facie it seems that the Sub Division Hospital had actually saved the life of the aggrieved person when she was presented with a complicated situation during her labour in January 2024. The department recognises the effort made by the institution in saving numerous lives of people of the region particularly women and children during the past two and a half years,” the department said in a statement issued here on Monday.
It further urged all agencies to refrain from publishing any unconfirmed news or quote names of any health professional working in the hospital until the departmental inquiry is complete. “This can severely bring down the morale of the health workers who are actually working tirelessly to save lives. Upon inquiry and findings, only the competent authority is authorised to take any action,” it added.
