70-yr-old woman crawls two km to collect pension
Keonjhar (Odisha), Sep 24: A 70-year-old woman in Odisha’s Keonjhar district was forced to crawl nearly two kilometres from her home to the panchayat office to collect her old-age pension. The ailing woman identified as Pathuri Dehury, a resident of Raisuan gram panchayat, cannot walk. A video of Dehury crawling on a village road has gone viral on social media. Raisuan gram panchayat sarpanch Bagun Champia said that he drew the attention of the administration after watching the old woman crawling on the road on television news and seeing her pictures in newspapers. “I have also verified from the villagers that the woman is not able to walk properly due to her age-related aliment,” the Sarpanch said. Though the state government had earlier issued a directive to officials to deliver the pension of elderly and disabled beneficiaries at their doorstep, Dehury said a panchayat official had asked her to visit the office to collect the monthly pension. Nursing student molested at gunpoint in UP
Shahjahanpur, Sept 24: A construction worker and his associate allegedly molested a nursing student at gunpoint inside a college here, police said on Tuesday. One accused has been arrested while the other is at large, they said. “The student, a resident of Jalalabad police station area, is pursuing a nursing course in a college located in the Chowk Kotwali area,” ASP Sanjay Kumar said. On Monday, Suresh Kumar (35), a tile contractor, and his partner Anmol, allegedly caught the student in the college washroom and molested her, he said. “When the student tried to protest and shout, Suresh gagged her mouth and pointed a gun at her,” Kumar said, adding, “However, the student showed courage and bit Suresh’s hand and ran out of the bathroom screaming.” Upon information, a police team reached the spot, took Suresh into custody and brought him to the police station, the ASP said. Pulwama attack accused dies in J&K hospital
Jammu, Sep 24: An accused in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack died in a government hospital in J&K’s Jammu city, said officials here on Tuesday. They said the terror attack accused, Bilal Ahmad Kuchay was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu after he complained of chest pain in Kishtwar district jail. Kuchay was a resident of Kakapora in Pulwama district. “Late last night he passed away in the Government Medical College Hospital (Jammu) due to heart failure according to the doctors attending to him,” they said. Eight killed, two hurt in MP road mishap
Damoh, Sep 24: Eight persons were killed and two injured in a collision between a truck and an autorickshaw in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district on Tuesday, police said. The accident occurred between 1.30 pm and 2 pm near Samanna village, said Damoh Superintendent of Police Shrutikirti Somvanshi. The injured persons were rushed to Jabalpur through a special corridor created on the road. “Police personnel and residents of the village rushed to the spot to launch the rescue operation,” the officer said. According to the police, seven persons were killed on the spot, and one succumbed to the injuries at the hospital. (PTI)
