Key figures call on Guv Vijayashankar

SHILLONG, Sep 25: Governor CH Vijayashankar held a series of meetings on Wednesday with key figures from various communities and organisations, addressing cultural, spiritual, and developmental concerns.
In the first of these meetings, Chairman of the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee from the Golden Temple, Amritsar, Bhagwant Singh, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor. Singh, who oversees the management of Sikh gurdwaras across the country, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet and shared the cultural and spiritual importance of the Golden Temple as a centre for faith and service. He also highlighted the committee’s efforts in promoting interfaith harmony and humanitarian work. Governor Vijayashankar commended the Parbandhak Committee’s ongoing initiatives in fostering unity and peace and praised their contribution to community welfare.
Subsequently, Hector Marwein, IAS (Retd.), Chairman of the State Sustainable Development Council, also met the Governor to discuss Meghalaya’s progress in promoting sustainable development. Marwein outlined various initiatives focused on environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, and sustainable practices in agriculture, energy, and resource management.  Governor Vijayashankar lauded Marwein’s leadership and commitment to advancing sustainable development in the state, emphasising the need to balance economic growth with the preservation of Meghalaya’s natural resources. The Governor assured his full support for the Council’s efforts to create a more resilient and sustainable future for Meghalaya.
Additionally, Sirdar Zosiama Thianglai of the Saipung Sirdarship made a courtesy visit to the Governor. During their conversation, Thianglai shared his concerns about the welfare and development of the Saipung community, highlighting its rich cultural heritage. He sought the Governor’s guidance on various socio-economic issues affecting the region. The Governor expressed appreciation for Thianglai’s dedication to his community’s well-being and assured the Raj Bhavan’s continued support in addressing their developmental needs.
