WJH sprinters to compete in U-23 Indian Open Championship

Shillong, Sep 26: The Meghalaya Athletics Association has announced the selection of two sprinters from West Jaintia Hills to represent the state at the 4th Indian Open U-23 Athletics Championship 2024, set to take place in Patna from September 28 to 30.
Kyrshanlang Shylla, a 20-year-old from Kyndong Tuber, will compete in the men’s 400m race, while 18-year-old Renaldi Dhar from Wahiajer will participate in the men’s 100m sprint.
Both athletes have shown exceptional promise in their respective disciplines.
Kyrshanlang is currently training at the Sports Authority of India’s Shillong Training Centre, while Renaldi is honing his skills under the Super Elite Pathway Programme, an initiative of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association and the state government.
The duo has already made a mark on the regional athletics scene, having been part of the team that secured bronze in the 4x100m men’s relay at the 3rd North East Games last year. In addition, both athletes clinched gold medals in their respective events at the 5th Meghalaya Games earlier this year and represented the state at the 34th East Zone Athletics Championship in 2023.Their participation in the Indian Open U-23 Athletics Championship is expected to further enhance Meghalaya’s growing presence in national athletics.Their selection for the prestigious U-23 championship not only highlights their individual talents but also reflects the steady rise of athletics in Meghalaya. As they gear up to compete on a national stage, Kyrshanlang and Renaldi carry with them the hopes of their community and state, aiming to bring further accolades to Meghalaya’s growing sports legacy.
The Meghalaya Athletics Association has expressed confidence in the young sprinters, praising their hard work and dedication. Officials believe that their participation in such a high-level competition will provide valuable exposure and experience.
