SHILLONG, Sept 28: A police team from East Khasi Hills will start grilling Ibrahim Ansari (59) from Jharkhand suspected of being involved in a fraudulent investment scheme.
“After arresting him, our police team has brought the accused from Jharkhand on transit remand. We will be interrogating him in a duping case reported on August 12,” a senior police official said on Saturday.
He also said they would produce the accused in court to seek police custody.
Ansari is a resident of Senha village, Muslim Mohalla in the Lohardaga district of Jharkhand. He was arrested based on a police complaint at the Rynjah police station.
Police said he used the pseudonym Abhishek Kumar Yadav and claimed to be an assistant area manager at KFC.
“Ansari lured a victim to put money in a fake investment scheme worth Rs 19,27,000. Believing the offer to be legitimate, the complainant paid the first instalment on June 14 and subsequent payments over the following weeks. The last instalment was paid on August 6,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, S. Nongtnger said.
The complainant later discovered Yadav was not an employee of KFC and had duped him. Based on his complaint, the police launched an investigation and zeroed in on Ansari in Jharkhand.
“The investigation is still underway, with efforts being made to identify and apprehend more suspects involved in this case,” he said.
