SHILLONG, Oct 1: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Tuesday demanded an “independent probe” into the alleged irregularities in the results of the written examination of Staff Nurse and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), conducted by the Meghalaya Medical Services Recruitment Board (MMSRB).
HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem stressed that action should be initiated against individuals responsible for the irregularities. He said it is surprising that there are anomalies even after the board had to cancel and re-declare the results thrice.
“We will not accept if there is an internal inquiry. There should be a judicial inquiry, headed by a retired judge or district and sessions judge,” Synrem said.
He said the youth of the state will lose their faith in the system as there were irregularities even after the written examination was conducted as per OMR sheets.
The HYC president alleged that the names of people, who did not appear for the examination, had featured on the list of successful candidates.
“We would like the Health department to stop the recruitment of the staff nurses and ANM until the irregularities are rectified,” he said.
The MMSRB had invited applications to fill up 164 vacancies of Staff Nurse and 78 vacancies of ANM. The written examination for both was conducted on September 21.
On Monday, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and the Jaintia Students’ Union had demanded the cancellation of the results of the written examination.
KSU employment monitoring cell chairman Reuben Najiar had stated that the results of the written examination was declared twice – first in the morning of September 28 and then, in the evening of the same day following rectification. He said this had left the candidates both confused and enraged.
According to him, in the result declared in the morning, a couple of roll numbers were mentioned twice in the list of eligible candidates. He said the board had published the second result superseding the first result.
Najiar said they had opposed it as there cannot be any waiting list according to a ruling of the apex court.
“But the Health Minister and the members of the MMSRB clarified that they had kept the waiting list to fill up all vacant posts given their experience of candidates refusing to join even after getting the appointment letter,” the KSU leader said.
He said they countered it by saying it is unlikely that candidates selected for the jobs will decline to join considering the dearth of employment opportunities in the government sectors.
