SHILLONG, Oct 3: A total of 1,155 students from four campuses across three districts benefitted from the SPARK (School Programmes in Articulation, Resilience, and Kindness) initiative following the completion of a ten-day workshop.
According to a statement here, the students, who hailed from St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong, Jirang Government Secondary School, Patharkhmah, Government Higher Secondary School, and Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Tura, were felicitated upon completing the workshop.
During the certification programme at St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Director of School Education & Literacy, Swapnil Tembe, emphasised the importance of nurturing kindness and competence.
“SPARK has been modelled around 3 Cs – Communication, Confidence and Competence. Whether you work in a team or you have to delegate something, you need to be able to communicate. It’s the most important skill for success. The only way to build your confidence is to face your fear, like many of you did today by conquering your stage fear,” he said.

Liza Dona Mary Sunn of St. Mary’s expressed how the workshop helped her overcome stage fright, while Rakme D Sangma from Tura learned the importance of first impressions.
Meanwhile, Laihunlang Thangkhiew from Jirang thanked the SPARK team for helping him manage peer pressure, and Jofar Thongni from Patharkhmah shared how learning power stances improved his public speaking confidence.
It may be mentioned that the SPARK initiative, which was launched in March 2024, has already reached over 4,000 students across Meghalaya, and the initiative continues to grow, fostering a generation of confident and resilient youths.
The initiative aims to equip students in classes 7 to 9 with foundational soft skills such as communication, confidence, STEM awareness, and well-being, promoting their development into responsible and compassionate citizens.
