SHILLONG, Oct 5: The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has announced the closure of the road near BDW International School in Nongmensong due to major cracks in the newly constructed bridge.
“The newly constructed bridge near BDW International School has developed significant cracks and is unsafe for vehicular movement. To ensure the safety of commuters, the road has been temporarily closed,” the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) stated in a social media post, tagging various news outlets.
The STP also urged the public to take alternate routes to avoid inconvenience.
Meanwhile, residents of Langkyrding and Nongmensong are experiencing significant difficulties due to delays in the construction of two crucial culverts along the road. According to official sources, the contractors responsible for the project have been unable to proceed due to persistent water-logging issues.
An official source explained that the contractors are facing challenges with the foundation work, particularly after completing one side of the culverts. The area is prone to flooding during heavy rainfall, which has further complicated the construction process.
Officials have set a December deadline for the completion of both culverts and have directed the contractors to resume work within the next 10 days.
