EKH officials attend conclave hosted by BIS

SHILLONG, Oct 10: Officials from government departments of East Khasi Hills district attended a dynamic stakeholders’ conclave organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Guwahati, to highlight the importance of quality and standardisation in the lead-up to World Standards Day 2024.
The event saw the participation of around 60 individuals, including key officials from government departments such as Public Health and Engineering, District Transport Office, and Legal Metrology, as well as representatives from NGOs, academia, and exporters from East Khasi Hills.
Aimed at raising awareness about the role of standards, the conclave focused on how they enhance product quality, ensure consumer safety, and promote industry best practices. In his address as chief guest, Commissioner and Secretary of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department, Pravin Bakshi, emphasised the essential role that standards play in everyday life. Director and Head of BIS Guwahati, Shouvik Chanda, praised the collaboration among stakeholders, recognising their key role in advancing this mission.
Scientist-D/Joint Director, Adane Kharasi, provided an overview of BIS’s activities, with particular emphasis on the work of Standards Clubs, while Scientist D/Joint Director, Lamsuanlun Tonsing, explained the technical aspects of Indian standards for cement.
Mentors from the Standards Clubs also expressed their appreciation for BIS’s initiatives to raise awareness about quality control and standardisation.
