JOWAI, Oct 19: After receiving a complaint from the Jaintia National Council (JNC), Khliehriat Circle, regarding the deteriorating state of NH-6 in East Jaintia Hills district, Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi has assured swift action to address the issue.
In its complaint, the JNC flagged concerns over the poor condition of the highway, which, it added, had severely affected daily commutes and local businesses.
According to the JNC, dust accumulation along the road has worsened with winter approaching, thereby leading to health issues among residents, including respiratory problems such as coughs and sinus infections.
Shop owners along NH-6 too, the JNC rued, are struggling to protect their products from the dust, with many reporting losses as contaminated goods become unsellable.
It warned that if no steps are taken, the situation could escalate into a public health crisis.
Meanwhile, the DC has assured the JNC that immediate measures would be taken to improve the condition of the road for the community’s well-being.
