Shillong, Oct 21: Meghalaya’s football talent has once again taken centre stage as young midfielder Manbhakupar Malngiang has been named in the India U-17 squad for the upcoming AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers. Head coach Ishfaq Ahmed announced the 23-member squad on Sunday, which will compete in Thailand from October 23 to 27.
India, placed in Group D, will face Brunei Darussalam on October 23, Turkmenistan on October 25, and hosts Thailand on October 27. With 10 groups participating in the qualifiers, only the group winners and the five best second-placed teams will join Saudi Arabia for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2025.
Malngiang’s inclusion is a testament to Meghalaya’s growing contribution to Indian football.
Known for his agility and technical skills, the young midfielder from Shillong will be looking to make his mark on the international stage, representing his state and country with pride.
