SHILLONG, Oct 24: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) have rejected a proposal from the state government to extend the proposed overpass under the Shillong-Dawki road project till the Barik Junction.
As part of the Shillong-Dawki road project, an overpass has been planned till Anjalee Junction but the state government wanted the proposed overpass to be extended till Barik.
Sources said the MoRTH and NHIDCL have taken the decision to de-scope the extension of the proposed overpass as it involves land acquisition in Defence areas.
It has been decided that the extension of the overpass till Barik Junction will be taken up under a different consultancy and under the existing project, the NHIDCL will end the road with the proposed overpass just 50 metres before the Anjalee petrol pump.
