SHILLONG, Oct 24: The Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma at NEIGRIHMS, in collaboration with the Orthopaedic Society Shillong and the Departments of Anatomy and Neurosurgery, successfully hosted the Northeast Educational Workshop on Spine Cadaveric and CME on October 18 and 19. This event marked a significant milestone, being the first-ever spine cadaveric workshop held at NEIGRIHMS, and drew the participation of 40 delegates from across the region.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof Animesh Mishra, Officiating Director of NEIGRIHMS, who stressed the importance of such initiatives in improving medical education and advancing surgical skills, particularly in the Northeast. The event featured contributions from experts affiliated with the Spine Society of West Bengal and the Northeast Spine Society, with specialists attending from Delhi, Kolkata, Assam, Meghalaya, and Manipur.
A key highlight of the event was the release of the publication ‘Spine Surgery: A Beginner’s Guide’.
Prof Bhaskar Borgohain, Head of the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma, noted that the book aims to assist young surgeons and postgraduate medical students by providing a foundational understanding of spine surgery. It is expected to serve as a crucial resource for early-career professionals pursuing safe spine surgery practices.
Assistant Professor Dr Sachlang Debbarma highlighted the strong collaboration between NEIGRIHMS and the Orthopaedic Society Shillong (OSS), reflecting their commitment to advancing medical education and skill development in the region. The two-day event combined academic lectures with hands-on training, allowing participants to practice advanced spine surgery techniques under the mentorship of renowned experts.
