‘Busy’ CM not giving us appointment for two years, claims FAMASSTA

Shillong, Oct 27: The Federation of All Meghalaya Ad Hoc Secondary School Teachers Association (FAMASSTA) has slammed Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for not finding time in the last two years to meet them and listen to their grievances.
Speaking to reporters after a general meeting of the association on Saturday, FAMASSTA president Bina Kharumnuid said they failed to understand what the CM was so busy with that he was unable to give them appointment and keeping them waiting for two years.
She said they have repeatedly sought appointment from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) but they neither got any reply nor any positive response from the CM.
She said the CM has insulted the ad hoc teachers by not paying any heed to their grievances but the teachers have been patient and are yet to hit the streets to protest against the state government.
The FAMASSTA president said the ad hoc teachers have unanimously resolved to reject any additional responsibility imposed on them because of the step-motherly attitude of the state government.
“We will only perform those duties (teaching) which were defined at the time of our appointment,” Kharumnuid said, adding that the ad hoc teachers will not accept any additional duty like evaluation of SSLC answer sheets, collection of data for census and election duties.
She also lamented the miniscule salary paid to ad hoc teachers which does not take into the account the rising cost of living and growing price of essential commodities.
