NC MLA detained after ammo found in luggage
SRINAGAR, Oct 27: A National Conference legislator was detained at Srinagar airport on Sunday after ammunition was discovered in his luggage, but released after verification, officials said. Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri, the MLA from Bijbehara assembly constituency of Anantnag district, was stopped when the ammunition was detected by the X-ray machine during the scanning of the luggage.“The MLA was later released after he showed the licence for a pistol he possesses legally,” an official said. Man bludgeoned to death, body set on fire in Latur
LATUR, Oct 27: A man was arrested for allegedly bludgeoning a 25-year-old man to death and setting his body on fire in Maharashtra’s Latur district on Sunday, police said.The accused, a scrap collector, was arrested within five hours of the killing that took place on Barshi road, an official said.The body of an unidentified man near a hospital in the morning, he said.The victim was later identified as Laxman Subhash Gajghate, a resident of Navi Mumbai, was an alcoholic and had come to Latur on October 24 for medical treatment, the official said.Gajghate left his sister’s house on Saturday and did not return, he said.Following a probe, the police zeroed in on the accused, Sachin Shivaji Waghmare. The victim had allegedly assaulted Waghamre for a sleeping spot on the roadside, the official said.The accused later returned to the scene and allegedly bludgeoned the victim with a stone while he was asleep and set the body on fire to destroy evidence, he said. Eight escape from juvenile correction home in UP’s Mau
MAU, Oct 27: Eight inmates of a juvenile correction home here escaped after which six of them were apprehended, officials said on Sunday.The search is on for the remaining two juveniles, they said. An official said that the inmates, all below 18 years of age, fled through the kitchen of the reformatory home on Saturday night. Six of the inmates were held by police teams on Sunday.A case has been registered against the individuals involved in the escape, and a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the security lapse. Elderly man held for ‘raping’ minor girl
JAJPUR, (Odisha) Oct 27: A 57-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in Jajpur district, a police officer said on Sunday.The accused was well known to the eight-year-old girl, he said.Though the incident took place on October 23 and her mother filed an FIR on the same night, police managed to arrest the accused in the early hours of Sunday, the officer said.According to the complaint, the accused lured the girl on the pretext of showing her mongoose at his house and committed the crime.She is currently undergoing treatment. Police had detained the son, daughter, nephew and sister of the accused and grilled them to get information about his whereabouts.He was apprehended from the house of a medicine shop owner. (PTI)
