SHILLONG, Oct 31: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has urged Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to address the incomplete government housing projects in Nongmensong Lumphira and ensure that the intended beneficiaries receive the promised support.
“These buildings have been incomplete for several years and have become hotspots for illegal activities like drug trafficking, theft, attempted murder and other serious crimes,” said FKJGP general secretary, Nongmensong circle, Allan Kharkongor, who met Dhar.
“The presence of these unlawful activities has severely impacted residents, fostering an environment of fear and insecurity. What was initially intended to benefit vulnerable individuals has instead resulted in a dangerous situation for the entire community,” he said.
Calling for the minister’s immediate intervention, he said, “We, therefore, urge the Urban Affairs Department to take swift and decisive action to either  complete the housing projects as soon as possible or take necessary steps to secure the premises to prevent further illegal activity”.
Expressing optimism, he hoped that swift steps would be taken to address the issue and expedite the project’s completion.
