Mumbai, Nov 3: In an exciting Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 clash on Sunday, Mumbai City FC claimed a 4-2 victory over Kerala Blasters FC, opening their home win account in style. Despite Mumbai’s initial two-goal lead, Kerala fought back valiantly to level the game 2-2. However, two late goals from Nathan Rodriguez and Lallianzuala Chhangte helped Mumbai seal the win.
Key contributions came from Nicholas Carelis, who scored twice, and Nathan Rodriguez, who notched a vital goal and became the fourth-youngest scorer in ISL history for Mumbai City FC. The 20-year-old Rodriguez’s strike in the 75th minute gave Mumbai a crucial 3-2 lead, capitalizing on Kerala’s disadvantage of being down to 10 players after Kwame Peprah’s red card. The match began with Mumbai City FC dominating the first half, taking an early lead in the 9th minute as Carelis capitalized on a pass from Lallianzuala Chhangte. They could have extended their lead further, but several missed chances kept the scoreline tight. In the second half, Mumbai doubled their advantage with a penalty goal from Carelis in the 55th minute. Kerala responded swiftly, equalizing with a penalty from Jesus Jimenez in the 57th minute and a header from Peprah in the 71st minute. However, following Peprah’s red card for an over-enthusiastic celebration, Mumbai regained control. Rodriguez’s goal and Chhangte’s penalty in the 90th minute ensured Mumbai’s victory.
Match Summary: Mumbai City FC 4 (Nicholas Carelis 9’ & 55’ (penalty), Nathan Rodriguez 75’, Lallianzuala Chhangte 90’ (penalty))
