SHILLONG, Nov 6: The NEHU Non-teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) on Wednesday decided to exempt the Examination department from their ongoing tool-down/pen-down strike for the smooth conduct of the upcoming undergraduate examination in respect of affiliated colleges of the university which will commence from November 11.
NEHUNSA general secretary JP Nongbri said in a statement that they have taken this decision in the overall interest of the students.
The NEHUNSA took the decision following an appeal from Controller of Examination (CoE) Sumarbin Umdor.
Prof Umdor had appealed to all concerned to allow uninterrupted functioning of the Examination department of NEHU as the ensuing undergraduate odd semester examinations involves the future of over 80,000 students of the state.
“I would like to appeal to exempt the staff of the university’s Examination department from the announced pen-down strike beginning on the 4th of this month. This exemption is crucial to ensure the smooth conduct of essential examination-related activities that significantly impact our students,” Prof Umdor had said in a letter address to NEHUNSA.
He said that any disruptions will adversely affect the Examination department’s ability to adhere to timelines.
The CoE had said that timely processing of the postgraduate results for the 2022-24 batch as per OC-20 and the declaration of PhD results are dependent on uninterrupted departmental activities.
“In light of these critical schedules, I earnestly appeal to the association to consider this request to exempt the Examination department staff from the strike action. I am hopeful that NEHUNSA will consider this appeal favourably, recognizing its potential impact on the academic future of thousands of students studying in our affiliated colleges and our university,” Prof Umdor had added.
