NONGPOH, Nov 8: A 23-year-old driver lost his life at Umsning Bypass on National Highway-6 after a garbage truck (AS01RC0613) he was driving overturned and fell on him. The victim has been identified as Dawni Dkhar, from Madur village in East Jaintia Hills district.
Dkhar had reportedly lost control of the speeding vehicle, which veered into the median divider and flipped, fatally trapping him underneath. On the other hand, a 24-year-old helper, Ericson Swer from Ummulong in West Jaintia Hills, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The accident occurred around 2 pm while the truck, en route from Guwahati, was heading to deliver recycled plastic waste to the Dalmia Cement factory in Thangskhai, East Jaintia Hills.
Excessive speed is suspected to have caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the truck overturning onto the Shillong-Guwahati lane.
Meanwhile, Dkhar’s body has been taken to the Nongpoh Civil Hospital morgue for legal procedures.
