SHILLONG, Nov 13: The 8th State Conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) went under way here on Tuesday with district-level meetings, followed by an official inaugural function on Wednesday at U So So Tham Auditorium. The conference aims to foster a platform for youth leadership, cultural celebration, and educational advancement.
The inaugural function on Wednesday was attended by distinguished guests, including Governor CH Vijayashankar as chief guest, Cabinet Minister AL Hek as guest of honour, and ABVP national vice president Dr Sudipta Mukhopadhyay as the keynote speaker.
The event attracted over 500 attendees, including heads of institutions, educators, entrepreneurs, and students from across the state. The ceremony began with a flag hoisting, followed by an exhibition showcasing Meghalaya’s rich cultural heritage, embodying ABVP’s spirit of youth empowerment and cultural preservation.
In his address, Governor Vijayashankar reflected on his long-standing association with ABVP, attributing his personal and professional growth to the organisation. He praised ABVP’s constructive work for the state and nation, expressing his commitment to advancing opportunities for Meghalaya’s youth and students.
AL Hek, on the other hand, commended ABVP Meghalaya’s role in supporting student development, while Dr Mukhopadhyay encouraged students to contribute to nation-building as active members of the world’s largest student organisation.
The conference will continue on Thursday with a role model session, where notable figures from various fields will inspire the delegates, and a cultural rally highlighting the diverse heritage of Meghalaya.
