Curtain comes down on ABVP Meghalaya State Conference
SHILLONG, Nov 15: The 8th ABVP Meghalaya State Conference concluded on Thursday with the third day marked by an inspiring series of sessions, featuring a role model segment where dignitaries from diverse fields shared their journeys, challenges and achievements. The session began with a keynote address by Simi Khongtiang, an acclaimed director from Nohwet, East Khasi Hills, who grew up in Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills. A self-taught filmmaker, Khongtiang’s work has won her several accolades, including the Best Director (North East) award at the Prag Cine Award 2024. Her story of rising from a small town to acclaimed director resonated deeply with the young audience. Next was Meriba Sumer, an entrepreneur from Jowai, West Jaintia Hills. As the founder of SishuPebe Bakes, Sumer has generated employment for over 30 locals. During the event, Sumer shared her journey of resilience and encouraged delegates to see business as a means of both personal and community growth. Bonkey R. Marak, founder of Eco-Craft in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, shared insights into sustainable business. His manufacturing unit, known for eco-friendly student stationery, recently won him the 25 Entrepreneurship Award from the Government of Meghalaya. Marak’s story highlighted the potential of sustainable practices to benefit both the economy and environment. Former IPS officer Mariahom Kharkarang also addressed the delegates, urging them to uphold integrity, perseverance and dedication to public service, leaving the audience motivated and inspired. The conference concluded with a valedictory session, where newly elected ABVP office-bearers and state executive members for 2024-25 were announced.

M’laya Pavilion inaugurated at IITF
SHILLONG, Nov 15: The Meghalaya Pavilion was inaugurated on Thursday inaugurated at the India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. According to a statement here, the Meghalaya Pavilion was inaugurated by Executive Chairman of the Meghalaya State Investment Promotion Board (MSIPB), RM Mishra. The IITF, organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) from November 14 to 27, brings together various states, union territories, ministries, and private enterprises. Representing Meghalaya at IITF-2024 are the Departments of Tourism, Commerce and Industries, Meghalayan Age, and the Directorate of Information and Public Relations as the nodal department.
