TURA, Nov 18: A group called ACHIK North Garo Hills Zone on Monday urged the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) authorities to carry out verification of trading licences of non-tribal traders operating in Dainadubi area in the same district.
In its letter to the Executive Member in-charge of Land and Revenue, GHADC, the organisation raised the possibility of certain traders operating without licences and urged the authority to take steps to prevent such irregularities.
“It has come to our notice that certain traders operating in this region may not possess valid trading licences as required under the regulations of the GHADC. Such practices not only contravene established legal norms but also pose challenges to the economic and social welfare of the local indigenous population. We request your office to conduct a thorough verification of all non-tribal trading licences in the Dainadubi area. This inspection will ensure compliance with the rules and safeguard the interests of the indigenous communities, as well as maintain fair trading practices,” its co-chairman Rorock R Marak said, while assuring its full cooperation in facilitating the process.
