SHILLONG, Nov 20: The Voice of the People Party on Wednesday strongly condemned the VIP culture and demanded that the recent hit-and-run case near the ICAR complex on November 15 and such other similar cases that happened in the past be investigated independently and fairly to bring justice to the victims.
“Not only those in power but even their family members think that they are above the law turning democracy into a mockery. Many precious lives were lost in different parts of the state bringing tragedy to the affected families,” VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said.
He said, “The prevalence of this pernicious culture directly and indirectly affects the people psychologically and adversely affects their quality of life.”
“I strongly urge the Police department to straighten their spine to stand up and protect the rights of even the perceived least important member of the society as per the supposed calling of their duty,” he added.
He said it is high time that the law enforcement agencies act on cases against the high level without fear or favour to win back the confidence of the people.
