Group’s new office-bearers move DC, SP against former members
NONGPOH, Nov 21: The newly elected members of the Nongpoh Region Auto Owners & Drivers Association (NRAODA) have lodged a complaint against former association president Marcus Marten and former secretary W. Makri, accusing them of misusing the association’s name. The complaint, filed with Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, called for immediate action to address the issue. Speaking to the media persons after their meeting with the DC and SP, new president of the association, Banasar Lyngdoh Nonglait, and education secretary, Elinby Tynsong, alleged that the former office-bearers continue to operate as association heads despite the end of their tenure. They accused Marten and Makri of collecting money and issuing notices for a meeting to elect new office-bearers on November 23. The new leadership clarified that their positions have already been officially recognised by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. In response to these actions, the new leadership issued a stern ‘final warning’ to Marten and Makri, demanding that they immediately cease using the NRAODA name. They asserted that they possess all necessary documents proving their legitimacy and criticised Marten for acting with impunity, accusing him of irresponsibility and behaving as though he was above the law. Addressing Marten’s claim that he does not recognise the new leadership, the new office-bearers argued that such a stance indirectly questions the decision of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, which approved their election. This, they stated, prompted their complaint to ensure that misleading actions by the former officials do not create confusion among auto-rickshaw drivers in the region. The new leaders also appealed to all auto-rickshaw drivers to boycott the November 23 meeting called by Marten and Makri, reiterating that the two no longer have any authority within the association. They urged drivers to unite under the officially recognised leadership, assuring them of their commitment to the welfare and interests of the members.
