Kailash, Anjali shine as Mary Kom joins Assam Rifles Half Marathon

Shillong, Nov 24: The 4th Assam Rifles Half Marathon 2024, held on Sunday at Laitkor, Shillong, witnessed an enthusiastic participation of over 1,900 runners, emphasizing the Fit India Movement.
Organized by the Assam Rifles at its headquarters, the event drew participants from 28 states and three Union territories, reflecting its growing popularity across the country.
Legendary boxer MC Mary Kom, who served as the brand ambassador for the event, joined the ‘Pine Path’ 10km race, adding a star presence to the marathon. The event also featured a 5km race, aptly named the ‘Crystal Stream,’ and the marquee 21km half marathon, titled ‘Cloud Chase.’
The half marathon saw 347 participants, the 10km event recorded 826 runners, while 776 individuals competed in the 5km race.
Cash prizes totaling ₹18.15 lakh were distributed among 48 winners across various categories, alongside medals, certificates, and souvenir T-shirts for all participants.
An additional 150 consolation prizes were also awarded to encourage more fitness enthusiasts.
Kailash Chaudhary of the 20 Assam Rifles claimed the top spot in the men’s half marathon, finishing in an impressive 1 hour, 5 minutes, and 30 seconds.
Among women, Anjali Kumari from Bihar emerged victorious with a time of 1 hour, 19 minutes, and 43 seconds.
Air Marshal Surat Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
This year’s marathon also championed eco-consciousness as the first ‘Green Marathon’ in the North East.
Organizers emphasized waste recycling and discouraged the use of plastic, making the event not just about fitness but also environmental responsibility.
The 4th Assam Rifles Half Marathon 2024 not only celebrated the spirit of fitness and competition but also highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability and unity in diversity.
With participants from across the nation and initiatives promoting a greener tomorrow, the event stood as a testament to the Assam Rifles’ commitment to fostering both physical well-being and social responsibility.
The event’s success underscored the growing enthusiasm for fitness and marathons in the region, inspiring individuals from diverse backgrounds to come together for a common cause.
By blending athleticism with environmental awareness, the marathon set a benchmark for future sporting events in the North East and beyond.
