M’laya karatekas win 12 medals at Federation Cup c’ship

Shillong, Nov 26: Meghalaya karatekas won 12 medals at the 1st Federation Cup Premier League & Youth League Karate Championship 2024, which was held in New Delhi recently.
A contingent of 13 karatekas of the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association, led by coach Donboklang Lyngdoh, participated in the 17th to 23rd November event.
AMKA karatekas have always managed to win medals at regional, national and even international events as this event in the national capital was no different, with 3 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals won.
In a release on Tuesday, AMKA congratulated the karatekas and coach for bringing further laurels to the state.
The three gold medallists were Gregorwilson Makdoh (Junior Male Individual Kata), Davyson Kharkongor (Men Individual Kumite -50kg) and Kynpham Kharkongor (Men Individual Kumite -67kg).
The silver medallists were Ram Lanong (Junior Male Individual Kumite -55kg), Ferdinand Samkupar Rani (Junior Male Individual Kata), Damebanmerbha S Blah (Senior Male Individual Kumite -50kg), Sa-I Banmanmirbha Blah (Junior Female Individual Kumite -42kg) and Barisha Kharbani (Women Individual Kumite -61kg).The bronze medallists were Cathy Sweety Nongrum (Women Individual Kumite -45kg), Nangkitbok Phira (Men Individual Kumite -55kg) and double medallist Gideon Tympuin (Men Individual Kata and Men Individual Kumite -55kg).
The impressive performance by Meghalaya’s karatekas at the 1st Federation Cup Premier League & Youth League Karate Championship 2024 highlights the state’s growing talent in the sport.
With a strong showing in the national arena, the athletes have once again proven their skill and determination, bringing pride to the state.
AMKA’s continued success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both the athletes and their coach, Donboklang Lyngdoh.
