Under-trial prisoner dies en route Jowai CH; family seeks probe

JOWAI, Nov 29: An under-trial prisoner at the District Jail and Correctional Home in Jowai, identified as one Tenkini Siangshai (32) from Wapungskur village in East Jaintia Hills, passed away while being transported to the Jowai Civil Hospital in Ialong.
According to sources, Siangshai’s family was informed of his death at 4:38 pm on November 28, 2024, by hospital authorities. However, the hospital stated that Siangshai had passed away before arriving at the facility.
Meanwhile, the family has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding his death, urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine where and how he died.
The family has also sought clarity and accountability regarding the events, leading to Siangshai’s untimely demise.
It may be mentioned that following the completion of the formalities, Siangshai’s body was handed by the police to his family.
