SHILLONG, Dec 4: A rusted electric pole collapsed onto a vehicle in the Golf Link area here on Wednesday afternoon, exposing yet another instance of negligence by the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
It may be mentioned that the incident corroborates the growing concern over the presence of rusted electric poles, not just in rural villages but also in the state capital. These deteriorating poles pose a significant risk to public safety.
Despite the dangers, the government has largely refrained from replacing these ageing electric poles, opting instead for temporary repairs when necessary.
