Dawki assault cases: Awami League leaders held in WB

SHILLONG, Dec 9: Four Awami League leaders and activists were arrested in Kolkata on Sunday in connection with assault cases involving local truck drivers in Dawki, West Jaintia Hills, last month.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from West Jaintia Hills Police, with assistance from Kolkata Police, apprehended the individuals, including Nasir Uddin Khan, chairman of Sylhet District Council, and Alam Khan Mukti, president of Sylhet Metropolitan Jubo League.
Police sources confirmed that the four were transported from Kolkata to Jowai on Sunday night. They are suspected to have been involved in the assaults on truck drivers at Dawki, a key border trade point.
The arrested individuals have been taken into custody for interrogation, with a case registered at Dawki Police Station.
Further investigation is under way.
