NONGPOH, Dec 27: Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar on Friday laid the foundation stone for the Khlieh Umtrew Road and announced several significant development projects for his constituency.
The programme, held at the Government LP School in Khlieh Umtrew, symbolised progress for an area with long-awaited infrastructural improvements.
Addressing the gathering, Marngar expressed his pride in initiating the long-overdue project, which he credited to his association with the National People’s Party (NPP).
He then acknowledged the support of the MDA government under Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, highlighting how collaboration with the government had enabled this progress.
On the occasion, Marngar also announced upcoming road projects, including Umtrai Road, Umkra Road, Mawrong Road, Pamlatar Road, Lymphuid Road, Mawlasnai-Kdoh Hati Road and Nongjri-Raid Mawbuh Road, with the Sonidan-Umsiang Road to commence soon. These projects, he said, are aimed at addressing infrastructural deficits across the constituency.
Further, the MLA revealed plans to lay the foundation stone for the Mawhati C&RD Block in January 2025.
He said the new block office would significantly ease the challenges of the residents, reducing their reliance on the distant Umsning C&RD Block for accessing essential services.
While referring to criticisms on social media, Marngar urged residents not to be swayed by commentators with no ties to Mawhati.
He encouraged the public to assess the critics’ tangible contributions to community welfare.
It may be mentioned that the Rs four crore road project, spanning 4.5 kilometers and funded under the State Road Scheme, will connect Umsning-Mawhati Road to Khlieh Umtrew.
This development fulfills a 58-year aspiration of the local population, addressing decades of neglect.
