Eight killed, many injured in bus accident
BHATINDA, (Punjab) Dec 27: Eight people died and many were injured on Friday when a private bus crashed through a railing of a bridge here and plunged into a drain a few feet below, police said.The bus had over 45 passengers and it fell in Lasara drain at Jeewan Singhwala village, officials said.The accident occurred when the bus was enroute to Bathinda from Talwandi Sabo. Locals rushed to the spot immediately to help the passengers, they said.Eight people have died in the accident, the police said.Police and district administration also launched a rescue operation and took the injured to a hospital. A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also reached the spot to provide assistance, they added.The weather was inclement in the area, the officials said, while adding that exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Family of three dies in road accident
BIJNOR, (UP) Dec 27: A couple, who had recently reconciled after a dispute, and their six-year-old daughter died in a road accident here, police said on Friday.The incident took place on Thursday evening when Ravindra (35), his wife Sheetal (30) and their daughter Ayushi were travelling on a motorcycle from Kiratpur to Bijnor.They were going to get medicine for Ayushi who was unwell, police said.“Near the village of Budhpur Nain Singh, a van’s tire burst, causing the vehicle to lose control and collide with the bike,” police said. Man who set himself on fire near Parliament, dies
NEW DELHI, Dec 27: A 26-year-old man who set himself on fire near the Parliament on Dec 25 died during treatment at RML hospital here on Friday, officials said.On Wednesday, Jitendra from UP’s Baghpat tried to immolate himself near the new Parliament building after pouring a petrol-like substance on his body.The fire was extinguished with the help of security personnel deployed near the parliament.He was then taken to RML hospital and admitted to the burn wards.According to initial investigations, the man took the extreme step due to a dispute with some people back home. Ancient Shaiva, Buddhist sculptures found in Odisha
BHADRAK, Dec 27: Ancient sculptures, including remnants of Shaiva and Buddhist deities, have been found along the banks of the Baitarani River in Odisha’s Bhadrak district, researchers said.The sculptures were found near a village.Researchers found 18 ancient sculptures, including rare Shaiva and Buddhist deities, dating back to the 6th or 7th century Common Era (CE).These artefacts include intricately carved miniature temples and ‘argha stupas’, they said.A local youth, Bibekananda, stumbled upon a statue during his morning walk and promptly informed the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) members and young researcher Biswambhar Raut.The sculptures depict Shaiva deities like Shiva, Parvati, and Ganesh, and Buddhist icons such as Buddha, Tara, and Padmapani.
