The invisible map of shortcuts
In Shillong, shortcuts are a prized possession. Locals guard them with the seriousness of a treasure map.
Google Maps? Not for the city. No algorithm can decode the labyrinth of footpaths, sneaky staircases, and nameless lanes that slice through the city. You can’t search for “that tiny trail behind the butcher’s shop that pops you out near the tea stall.” These shortcuts come with their quirks, though. Some are so steep that they might make you question your fitness choices. Others involve squeezing between walls so narrow, and some paths, while magical in the daytime, turn into spook-fests after dark when the only light comes from a far-off streetlamp.
Still, nothing beats the joy of appearing ten minutes early somewhere and watching friends huff and puff as they take the “main road.” Shillong shortcuts are not just paths; they’re proof that this hill town has its own secret code, one you can only crack by walking it.

The real MVPs
Shillong, usually as peaceful as a library after 9 PM, has completely thrown its chill vibe out the window this festive season! The streets, have now transformed into a full-blown party zone.
But who isn’t out there shaking a leg and living it up? Our trusty traffic cops. While everyone else is out there partying like it’s the last night on Earth, these legends are working hard to ensure that the streets don’t turn into a gridlock.
Besides the glitter and glamour , these guys are the true stars of Shillong’s festive season.
They knew what they were signing up for, but do they deserve a round of applause for keeping the roads from turning into a chaotic mess?
Their families, deserve the additional credits, for letting them work those extra hours while we’re all out there living our best lives.
