SHILLONG, Dec 31: The staff, students, and local communities across the region enthusiastically participated in the Swachhata Pakhwada organised by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, along with its regional stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), from December 16 to 31.
As part of the programme, awareness campaigns were conducted to address environmental issues like straw burning, promoting alternatives such as composting and mulching.
Office premises underwent intensive cleaning, and tree plantation drives were held in villages across Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland.
The initiative also included interactive workshops on waste management and sustainable farming practices during Farmers’ Day celebrations. Additionally, campaigns were conducted in newly identified villages to encourage waste segregation and composting.
The Swachhata Pakhwada aimed to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and sustainable practices across the Northeast region, fostering a cleaner and greener environment for future generations.
