Jowai welcomes 2025 with first-ever community New Year celebration

JOWAI, Jan 2: Residents of Jowai ushered in the New Year with a grand community celebration held on January 1 at Iawmusiang. The event brought together people from diverse backgrounds, including families, youth and children, fostering a lively and joyous atmosphere.
As per tradition, local villages and neighbourhoods began the festivities with prayers and traditional rituals at Iawmusiang before joining the celebration. This collective event symbolised unity and goodwill, marking the arrival of 2025 with shared happiness.
Organised by the Synjuk ki Waheh Shnong Jowai in collaboration with the District Tourism Promotion Society and the West Jaiñtia Hills district administration, the event was titled the ‘Community New Year Celebration’.
A total of 18 villages and neighbourhoods participated, including Khimusniang, Chutwakhu, Ladthadlaboh, Tympang Iawmusiang, Lion Mission Compound, Mynthong, Tpep-pale, Dongmihsngi, Khliehmyngkrem, Khliehiongriang, Myntdu Pynthornein, Salaroh, Loomsooiung New Hill, Moosalyngkat, Mookyrdup, Lumpariat, Panaliar and Caroline.
During the celebration, participation certificates were distributed to the representatives from each locality, with an announcement that monetary rewards would follow at a later date.
Meanwhile, the Synjuk ki Waheh Shnong Jowai expressed optimism that this first-of-its-kind event would pave the way for prosperity, unity and development in all Jowai localities throughout 2025.
