CBI books own Dy SP for taking ‘undue advantage’
New Delhi, Jan 2: The CBI has booked one of its own deputy SPs posted in the Bank Security and Frauds branch in Mumbai for allegedly taking “undue advantage” from people probed by him, officials said Thursday. The FIR registered by the agency against Meena alleges he was utilising the services of middlemen for transacting the bribe money through a web of accounts and hawala channel, they said. Deputy SP BM Meena was booked for allegedly obtaining undue advantage from different individuals who were within the ambit of the investigation being conducted by him. (PTI)

Man beaten up over loud music dies in Mumbai
Thane, Jan 2: One of the two men beaten up during an argument over playing loud music at a New Year’s eve party in Thane’s Kashmira area died in a Mumbai hospital on Thursday, a police official said. The incident took place on the night of December 31 at a MHADA housing complex, the Kashimira police station official said. “Raja Pariar (24) and another person Vipul Rai were beaten up allegedly by residents of the complex over loud DJ music. Pariar died today at a Mumbai hospital. Rai is still hospitalised. We have detained a few persons in this connection,” the official informed. Further probe into the case is underway, the Kashimira police station official added. (PTI)

TMC councillor gunned down in WB’s Malda
Malda/Kolkata, Jan 2: Trinamool Congress councillor Dulal Sarkar was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in West Bengal’s Malda district on Thursday morning, police said. Sarkar, the TMC councillor from Malda, was shot in his head multiple times from close range by bike-borne assailants at Jhaljhalia More area, they said. “He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries. A probe has been initiated and we are trying to identify the culprits,” a senior police officer told PTI. West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee expressed shock over the killing of Sarkar, who was popularly known as Babla. “My close associate and a very popular leader, Babla Sarkar, has been murdered today. From the beginning of the Trinamool Congress, he (and his wife Chaitali Sarkar) worked hard for the party, and Babla was also elected a councillor,” she said in a post on X. (PTI)
