Shillong, Jan 5: The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) has taken a significant step toward promoting cricket in rural Meghalaya by finalising plans for a cricket ground in Mukhla, West Jaintia Hills. This initiative aligns with MCA’s ongoing efforts to establish cricket infrastructure across districts to nurture local talent.
On January 4, 2025, a tripartite lease agreement was signed between the Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun, West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association (WJHDCA), and MCA for acquiring a 5.93-acre plot to develop a standard cricket ground with all essential facilities.The land, identified with the proactive efforts of WJHDCA and supported by local MLA Wailad Shylla, an ardent cricket enthusiast, marks a milestone in boosting sports infrastructure in the region. The agreement signing ceremony, presided over by WJHDCA President Eddystone Shylla, was attended by notable dignitaries, including MLA Wailad Shylla, MCA President Naba Bhattacharjee, MCA Vice President Rayonald Kharkamni, MCA Treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria, MCA Secretary Weibor Sohlang, and office bearers of WJHDCA. Representatives from the Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun, including President Hamran Shylla and General Secretary Hachwa Suna, also signed the agreement.
MCA President Naba Bhattacharjee expressed deep gratitude to the Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun for their generosity in providing the land, which is conveniently located a few kilometers from the highway with excellent connectivity. Following an on-site inspection, the team expressed satisfaction with the land’s suitability for a cricket ground.
