Prof Mc Andrew from University of Montreal speaks on Ethnocultural Diversity at USTM

Guwahati, Jan 6: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) today welcomed Prof. Marie Mc Andrew, Emeritus Professor of the University of Montreal, Canada, for a two-day visit during jan 6-7, 2025.

Her visit marks a significant occasion for USTM, bringing enriching insights into ethnocultural diversity and inclusivity in higher education.

A thought-provoking session by Prof. Mc Andrew today on “The Management of Ethnocultural Diversity in Higher Education,” inspired meaningful discussions among students and faculty members.

The session focused on fostering inclusivity in academia, a topic of global relevance in today’s interconnected world. Prof. Mc Andrew also engaged in an insightful interaction with USTM faculty, sharing her extensive expertise and experiences.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with a melodious welcome song performed by B.Ed. students, setting a warm and respectful tone for the event. Prof. Gayatree Goswami, Dean of PQH School of Education, USTM, delivered the welcome address, extending a heartfelt welcome to Prof. Mc Andrew, distinguished guests, faculty members, and students from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Prof. Mc Andrew was felicitated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma with a traditional Assamese gamosa and a memento as a token of gratitude and respect. In his address, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his heartfelt appreciation for Prof. Mc Andrew’s visit and her invaluable contributions to the academic community of USTM.

During her session, Prof. Mc Andrew shared reflections on her journey to India during her Ph.D. period and highlighted the scope for research in education. She emphasized the importance of ethnocultural diversity and the potential for transformative research in India’s rich and diverse context. Her insights captivated the audience, inspiring both students and faculty members to delve deeper into this critical area of study. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. B.K. Das, Pro Vice-Chancellor of USTM.
