SHILLONG, Jan 9: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem on Thursday declined to comment on the observations and recommendations outlined in the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports for 2017-18 and 2018-19, and informed that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), constituted during the Council’s winter session in December, will examine the CAG’s findings and determine how to address them.
Speaking to media persons, he acknowledged that the CAG had raised concerns about irregularities in the utilisation of grants received from the Centre and the recruitment process for filling vacant Council posts.
“I am not competent to comment anything on the CAG report since the House has authorised the PAC to study the report,” the KHADC CEM said.  Syiem added that forming the PAC was one of the recommendations made by the CAG.
It may be mentioned that the PAC will be chaired by the Leader of Opposition, Titossarwell Chyne, with members including Bindo Mathew Lanong, Pynshngain N. Syiem, Lambor Malngiang, Martle N. Mukhim and Bajop Pyngrope.
The Secretary of the KHADC’s Legislative Wing will act as the Member Secretary of the PAC.
