India thrash Scotland by 119 runs in WT20 WC warm up match
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13: Defending champions India thrashed Scotland by 119 runs in a warm-up match of the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup here on Monday.Invited to bat, India made 164 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs with Kamalini G top-scoring with 32 off 23 balls.Four Indian batters — Trisha G (26), Sanika Chalke (17), captain Niki Prasad (25) and Kamalini — were retired out to give chance to their colleagues to be in the middle in the practice match.For Scotland, Ammy Baldie was the most successful bowler with 2/13 from 3 overs.Later, the defending champions bowled Scotland out for a paltry 45 in 18.5 overs for a commanding win.Shabnam Shakil, Vaishnavi Sharma and Sonam Yadav took two wickets apiece.In other warm-up matches, Australia mauled hosts Malaysia by 140 runs, the West Indies won against Nepal by nine runs, USA edged New Zealand by 13 runs, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets, England thrashed Samoa by nine wickets while Pakistan scrapped past Nigeria by 11 runs.The main tournament starts on Saturday, while India begin their campaign against the West Indies on Sunday. India had won the last edition — also inaugural — held in South Africa in 2023. (PTI)

Team India win Dressage World Challenges for SE Asia
MUMBAI, Jan 13: Inaara Luthria from the Amateur Riders’ Club (ARC) of Mumbai delivered a stellar performance to help India emerge as the top-ranked team in Zone 9 (South-East Asia) of the prestigious Dressage World Challenges 2024, the results of which were announced on Monday. The Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) has announced the final results of the Dressage World Challenges 2024 and Team India emerged as the top-ranked team ahead of Singapore and Indonesia, the ARC informed in a release on Monday.The team achieved an impressive aggregate score of 228.319%, surpassing Singapore and Indonesia to claim the top spot. The Dressage World Challenges 2024 was conducted in several countries throughout the year by the FEI last year.Inaara Luthria, the trailblazing athlete representing Mumbai, delivered a stellar performance while riding on Dasha Deluxe. Inaara, alongside teammates Gaurav Pundir (31), Yug Shokeen (14) and Vatsala Mehta (15), demonstrated exceptional skill and determination to secure India’s dominance in the region.Team India thus finished with a final aggregate score of 228.319%, finished ahead of Singapore at 207.884% and Indonesia at 207.912%, the release informed. Women’s HIL: Soorma Hockey Club beat Bengal Tigers 4-1
RANCHI, Jan 13: Soorma Hockey Club began their campaign in the Women’s Hockey India League (HIL) on a high as they beat Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers 4-1 here on Monday.Olivia Shannon (38th minute), Charlotte Englebert (42nd), captain Salima Tete (44th) and Sonam (47th) scored for Soorma while Hannah Cotter (7th) got the lone goal for the Tigers.Soorma controlled the tempo of the game and created good scoring opportunities in the early minutes. Despite Soorma’s dominant showing, it was Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers that drew first blood, scoring a field goal in the 7th minute.Soorma’s continuous attacking threats finally paid off when they found the equaliser in the 38th minute.Shannon fired the ball into the bottom left corner, beating the outstretched goalkeeper.Four minutes later, Soorma completed their comeback thanks to a goal from Charlotte Engleber.Soorma extended their lead in the 44th minute as captain Salima Tete made a solid effort from distance and found the net from a tight angle to place her side in a dominant position at the end of the third quarter.In the 47th minute, Sonam converted a penalty stroke to complete the tally.
