Group seeks upgrade of forest beat office in WGH’s Rongsai
TURA, Jan 18: The A’chik State People’s Front (ASPF) on Friday sought the renovation of the abandoned Rongsai Forest Beat Office in West Garo Hills as well as the deputation of adequate staff for the same. In its petition to the EM of Forest in the GHADC, the organisation pointed out that the office served as a vital transit point for forest and horticultural products into Assam. Informing that the office is currently in a deplorable condition as well as lacking sufficient employees, it urged the authority to look into resolving the issue at the earliest. “Its renovation and equipping it with staff will not only facilitate the proper management of resources but also assist in preventing illegal transportation of products,” it added.
Ahead of church event, Nongkrem MDC inspects road construction
Shillong, Jan 18: Nongkrem MDC Lambor Malngiang on Friday inspected the construction of a road for the Khasi Jaiñtia Presbyterian Synod Pdeng Jingiaseng Samla, which will be hosted by the Nongkrem Presbyterian Church from February 28 to March 2. Accompanied by church members and officials from the PWD (Roads), Malngiang reviewed the ongoing construction of the road connecting Iewpynsin village through Nongkyndong village to Mawpynthih village, all of which fall under his constituency. The church members had earlier held a meeting with the local MDC to discuss preparations for the event, emphasising the need for road repairs, traffic management, and an uninterrupted water supply during the three-day assembly. Bhalang Lyngdoh, an elder of the Nongkrem Presbyterian Church and chairman of the Nongkrem Dorbar Pyllun, highlighted the importance of repairing all access roads to ensure convenience for church members attending the assembly. Malngiang assured that he would urge the PWD (Roads) to prioritise repairs wherever necessary to facilitate smooth travel and successful hosting of the event.
Training programme benefits 95 rehabilitation professionals
Shillong, Jan 18: A two-day Zonal Level Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) Programme on ‘An Integrative Approach: New Trends in Disability Rehabilitation’, held at the DERT Annex, Malki, Shillong, from January 16 to 17, benefited 95 rehabilitation professionals from across Northeast. It was organised by the Office of the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation, and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Shillong, under the administrative control of SVNIRTAR Cuttack, Odisha, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. The training emphasised on the field of disability rehabilitation and empowering persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) through specialised care, interventions, and support. It is aimed to enhance their quality of life and ensure their active participation in society. The event was chaired by Camelia Doreen Lyngwa, MCS, Director of Social Welfare and Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, along with R Passah, Assistant Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, and Dianghunlang Chyne, Architect from the Office of the Chief Engineer, CPWD Shillong.
