NONGPOH, Jan 22: Chairman of Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC), Nartap village, Silverster Marbaniang, and Chairman of Mawpun Kshaid VWSC, Bandari Ryntathiang, have been invited as special guests to the Republic Day celebration in New Delhi on January 26.
Marbaniang and Ryntathiang played a crucial role in ensuring every household in their village receive clean and safe drinking water. Their leadership streamlined water management through effective planning, execution, and accountability. Under their guidance, the village committee has able to implemented measures to ensure compliance with monthly subscriptions and registration of new households. they conducted regular meetings to address water supply issues and assess progress, fostering a collective approach to sustainable water solutions.
With the support of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the VWSC of these two villages and the community at large take ownership of their water challenges. They mobilised resources, improved infrastructure, and implemented water conservation practices, creating a robust system to ensure long-term water security.
In the past, residents of Nartap and Mawpun Kshaid village faced immense hardships due to water scarcity; the location of their water source is more or less to 20 km away from their village, forcing villagers to rely on tankers and unprotected sources, and village women had spent hours for fetching water. Whereas today, functional household tap connections have drastically changed their way of living, it reduced the time spent on fetching water and also women and children can now focus on education and economic activities.
