Son of cop protecting NCP leader Praful Patel shoots self

Mumbai, Jan 24: The son of a police constable deployed in the security detail of NCP leader Praful Patel allegedly committed suicide on Friday, an official said. Harsh Maske (20) shot himself in the head with his father’s service pistol at around 1pm in Worli’s Century MHADA Colony and died instantly, the official informed. “His father Santosh Maske is attached to the Special Protection Unit and is part of the security detail of NCP leader and former Union minister Praful Patel. Harsh shot himself in the bathroom and was declared dead by doctors after his kin rushed him to a nearby hospital.” (PTI)

Woman ‘gangraped’ over refusal to give cigarettes

Lakhisarai, Jan 24: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by four persons over refusal to give them cigarettes in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, police said on Friday. Two of the accused have been arrested and a manhunt was launched to nab the others, they said. “The incident took place on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday when four persons went to the woman’s house in Nawabganj area asking for cigarettes. When she refused, they dragged her to a nearby field. and allegedly committed the crime,” the SP told. (PTI)

Teenage girl with earphones plugged in run over by train

Palghar, Jan 24: A 16-year-old girl died after being run over by an express train while she was crossing railway tracks with earphones on in Palghar district of Maharashtra, officials said on Friday. The incident took place at 1.10 pm on Thursday between Saphale and Kelve Road railway stations, they said. The deceased girl, Vaishnavi Rawal from Makne village in the district, was crossing the tracks when she was knocked down by the Kochuveli-Amritsar Superfast Express train. The girl probably could not hear the sound of the oncoming train as she had earphones plugged in, an official of the Government Railway Police said. (PTI)

2 burnt alive as stationary truck catches fire

Arrah, Jan 24: A truck driver and his helper were burnt alive on Friday when the vehicle inside which they had fallen asleep after parking it on the roadside caught fire in Bhojpur district, a senior police officer said. The incident took place in Koilwar police station area, where the 18-wheeler trailer went up in flames in the early hours, SP Raj said. The driver, Bhim Singh (56), and his helper Vikas Kumar (20), both local residents, were charred to death, he said. The duo had returned from West Champaran district late on Thursday and decided to leave for their respective places in the morning. (PTI)
