SHILLONG, Jan 25: BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai on Saturday inaugurated two major road projects in South Shillong constituency, marking a significant step in enhancing connectivity in the region.
The newly constructed roads at Mynsain Upper Lumparing and Mawnei Lower Lumparing were completed under the Special Plan Assistance (SPA) scheme by the Public Works Department (PWD) at a total cost of Rs 2.52 crore. The Mynsain road was built at Rs 1.38 crore, while the Mawnei road was completed for Rs 1.13 crore.
Addressing the gathering at the inaugural programme, Shullai reflected on Mynsain’s transformation, noting that it was once an isolated area with only a few households. He credited the residents who donated land for the project, appreciating their commitment to development.
“This road is more than infrastructure—it’s a lifeline that now allows ambulances and emergency services to reach the residents’ doorsteps, ensuring better access to healthcare,” Shullai stated.
At Mawnei, he inaugurated the expanded PWD road and urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure by ensuring its upkeep. He also encouraged locals to report antisocial activities to the Dorbar Shnong (local governing body) to maintain safety and harmony in the community.
Reaffirming his commitment to development, Shullai assured that several other projects are in progress and nearing completion. He also highlighted his hands-on approach to governance.
“Unlike others who blow their trumpet, I prefer to work quietly. My constituents are like my family, and I treat them as such,” he remarked.
The newly inaugurated roads are expected to boost connectivity, facilitate economic growth, and enhance the quality of life for residents in South Shillong.
