SHILLONG, Jan 29: Infiltration attempts along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya have reportedly increased significantly, with security forces intercepting several individuals attempting to cross illegally.
A senior Border Security Force (BSF) official on Wednesday acknowledged the growing number of infiltration attempts but assured that the force is actively conducting operations to prevent unauthorised crossings from Bangladesh.
“Most of our officers are on the ground, and we are taking multiple measures to curb infiltration,” the official stated.
To enhance surveillance, the BSF has installed CCTV cameras and deployed thermal imagers to detect movements along the border.
Recently, BSF troops successfully intercepted an illegal border-crossing attempt and nabbed four Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian driver along with a car.
Upon interrogation, the Bangladeshi individuals revealed that they had illegally entered India a few months ago and had been working as tailors in Bengaluru.
The individuals, residents of Narayanganj in Bangladesh, have been handed over to Pynursla police station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
