SHILLONG/MAWKYRWAT/NONGPOH, Jan 29: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has officially fielded its candidates for the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, with nominations being filed across the districts of East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi and South West Khasi Hills on Wednesday.
Contesting the crucial elections with an aim for clean governance and corruption-free administration, the party’s candidates have exuded confidence in securing victory.

East Khasi Hills

Nine VPP candidates, including the party’s lone woman candidate, Aibandaplin Lyngdoh Nonglait (Mylliem), filed their nominations at the IBST, Mawlai Mawiong, on Wednesday. The other candidates from Shillong constituencies include Danny Langstieh (Laban), Strongpillar Kharjana (Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah), Winston Tony Lyngdoh (Nongthymmai), Eddieson Kharumnuid (Mawlai) and Denzil Raynard Chen (Jaiaw).
Additionally, Lancaster Marbaniang (Mawphlang), Seibor Warbah (Mawryngkneng), and Kitborlang Syiem (Nongkrem) also filed their nominations.
Speaking to reporters, Nonglait reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparent governance and expressed confidence in her chances, citing the growing support for VPP across Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
Having made a strong impression in the 2023 Assembly elections despite losing to Congress MLA Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, she believes the party’s increasing acceptance among voters will work in her favour.
Meanwhile, Laban candidate Danny Langstieh informed that VPP will soon release its manifesto.
When asked about their stance on existing KHADC laws protecting Khasi indigenous tribes, he stated that they would assess them thoroughly if elected and work towards necessary improvements.
Meanwhile, two more VPP candidates—Shemborlang Rynjah (Lyngkyrdem-Laitkroh) and Manbhalang Thabah (Nongshken)—submitted their nomination papers at the office of the SDO (Civil), Pynursla. Rynjah clarified that VPP is not contesting against any political party but rather appealing to voters for a chance to represent them in the KHADC.
“We want to share the responsibility and contribute towards protecting the interests of the Khasi indigenous tribes,” he said.
Independent candidate Sony Kharjana and HSPDP candidate Stodingstar Thabah also filed their nominations from Sohiong.

South West Khasi Hills

In Mawkyrwat, VPP candidate Overlin Imiong (Langrin/Ranikor) filed his nomination papers at the Office of the South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner. Accompanied by his family and supporters, Imiong expressed his determination to bring change.
Even after 52 years, Meghalaya is still lagging behind in almost every sector. I joined politics to address these gaps and will uphold the objectives of my party, he stated, exuding confidence in his electoral prospects while citing the growing support for VPP.

Ri-Bhoi

In Nongpoh, five VPP candidates from the district filed their nominations at the deputy commissioner’s office for the ADC elections. They are Mathew Keneth Makdoh (Nongpoh), Isynei Hinge (Umroi), Apkyrmen Lyngdoh (Jirang), Banrikus Nongsteng (Umsning) and Kynjohlang Rangtong (Mawhati).
After filing their nominations, Makdoh and Hinge voiced their commitment to fair governance, pledging to eliminate corruption within KHADC and ensure unbiased administration in line with VPP’s vision.
With nominations now filed across key constituencies, VPP candidates are optimistic about their chances, banking on the party’s rising popularity and its promise of clean governance.
