Grammys 2025: Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce & Charli XCX win big

Rapper Kendrick Lamar won five honours for Not Like Us, while Beyoncé and Charli XCX followed with three awards each at the 67th Grammy Award, which was hosted by Trevor Noah.
The awards took place in the early hours of Monday according to India time.
The event was held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Lamar’s Not Like Us bagged five Grammy awards for record of the year, song of the year, rap performance, best rap song and best music video categories, making the Compton-bred rapper a 22-time Grammy winner.
His first wins were revealed during the premiere ceremony ahead of the main telecast on Sunday night.
The producer behind the hit, DJ Mustard, accepted the first awards on Lamar’s behalf, as the audience in the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles erupted into a thunderous applause.

Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter wins Album of the Year

Beyonce made history at the 2025 Grammy Awards by winning Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter.
This is her first time winning in this category, according to Billboard. With this win, Beyonce has also become the first Black woman this century to take home the Album of the Year Grammy as a lead artist.
Soon after her name was announced, Beyonce shared a hug with her husband, Jay-Z, before walking to the stage at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The award was presented by members of the Los Angeles Fire Department in honour of their service.
As per Billboard, Beyonce, in her winning speech, said, “I’d like to thank and acknowledge and praise all of the firefighters for keeping us safe. I just feel very full and very honoured. It’s been many, many years.”
Lamar, Billie Eilish, Post Malone and Charli XCX each had seven nods apiece, followed by Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter with six each.
Charli XCX took home dance pop recording for Von Dutch, dance electronic album for Brat and best recording package.

Sabrina Carpenter bags best pop solo performance

Carpenter won for best pop solo performance for Espresso and pop vocal album, while Roan was named best new artist.
Carpenter also took home the Best Pop Vocal Album for Short n’ Sweet”, contending alongside Billie Eilish for Hit Me Hard and Soft, Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department.

Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars win best pop duo/group performance

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars added two more Grammy Awards to their collection on Sunday night when they won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their hit song Die With a Smile.
Mars, in his winning speech, expressed his joy and said, “Gaga, I’m so honoured to be a part of this song with you. I’m so honoured to have a small part in your giant musical legacy, and I truly believe that God gave us this song to sing together, so thank you so much.”
Gaga gave a shout out to the “Trans people” during her acceptance speech.
“It’s such an honour to sing for all of you. I just want to say tonight that trans people are not invisible,” Gaga said, reports variety.com. “Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love. Thank you.”

Shakira awarded for best Latin pop album

During her Grammy acceptance speech, singer-songwriter Shakira took the opportunity to talk about the political turmoil surrounding President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
Shakira, who was awarded for the best Latin pop album for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran from Jennifer Lopez, the Waka Waka hitmaker thanked her children and dedicated the award “to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country,” she said. “You are loved. You are worth it and I will always fight with you,” added the Colombian singer.

Alicia Keys receives Dr Dre Global Impact Award

American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys was bestowed with the prestigious Dr Dre Global Impact Award on February 2, Sunday (early Monday morning in India) at the Grammys 2025, recognising her far-reaching influence in music and beyond.
The award, presented at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, acknowledged Keys’ exceptional contributions to the music industry, her philanthropic efforts, and her lasting impact on global audiences, as per People magazine.

Doechii wins best rap album; beats Eminem, J Cole

Rising hip-hop star Doechii won her first-ever Grammy Award on Sunday night (Feb 2), taking home Best Rap Album for her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal.
The victory was emotional for Doechii, as she became only the third woman in history to win in this category.
The hip-hop star beat major rap artists, including J. Cole, Future, and Eminem, who holds the record for the most wins in this category with six Grammys, according to Billboard.

Ricky Kej stuns in outfit inspired by Indian culture

Ricky Kej walked the red carpet in a traditional Indian outfit that celebrated India’s rich heritage and craftsmanship. Kej, who was nominated for his fourth Grammy for his album Break of Dawn, walked the carpet with Marla Maples, an American TV personality known for her past marriage to US President Donald Trump.
For the event, Kej opted for a brown bandhgala with bead embroidery. He paired it with a black dhoti featuring delicate golden lace. The outfit was designed by Bharat Jain and his team at 108 Bespoke, inspired by his Grammy-nominated album. Kej also chose to add a traditional Kambli shawl, often woven by Kuruba weavers of Karnataka. The shawl was redesigned using recycled yarns by Pavithra. (Agencies)
